If you remember first hand the lacquered kiss-curls of the '30s and '40s or the tight perms of the '50s, you may be thankful that in the early 1960’s a woman called Rose Evansky is said to have invented the “blow wave”.
Her revolutionary new method of drying hair with a hand-held blow dryer gave her Mayfair clients a soft, natural look that instantly earned her a reputation as one of the top hairdressers in London.
It was a great leap for a woman who had only come to England as a refugee from Nazi Germany a few decades before.
Now 84, Rose has retired to Hove, on the South Coast. Jennifer Chevalier went to meet her. | |
