Image: An insect trapped in amber
Amber is about 40 million years old and if your piece has an unlucky insect trapped inside it's especially valuable. It's made from the resin which at one time hung like toffee apples from the branches of evergreens. 

Claudia Hammond speaks to Victoria Finlay, the author of "Buried Treasure" and Jack Ogden, Chief Executive at the Gemological Association of Great Britain.
