Francis Fyfield
Crime writer Frances Fyfield has written many successful novels and two series with lead females; the "goody-goody" prosecutor Helen West and the charming, but sexually immoral solicitor Sarah Fortune. She has won several awards, including the Crime Writers' Association Silver Dagger and been nominated for many others. Her last book Safer than Houses was nominated for the inaugural Duncan Lawrie Dagger this year.

Frances talks to Jenni about her new book The Art of Drowning, a psychological thriller which explores revenge and justice and the seductive power of female friendship. She tells Jenni about the "hellish" writing process, why she begins writing with firm characters but with no idea of how her book is going to end and the appeal of creating deeply flawed heros and heroines.

The Art of Drowning by Francis Fyfield is published by Little Brown Publishers on 6th July 2006, ISBN 0-316-72762-8.
