The winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction 2006, will be announced today. Now in its eleventh year, the prize celebrates excellence and originality in women's writing. Shortlisted among this year's nominees is the first time novelist - Australian farming journalist Carrie Tiffany, with her novel 'Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living.'
It sounds like an advice pamphlet, but in fact, Tiffany has used her intimate knowledge of the Australian countryside to paint a picture of farming communities of the 1930s, when the belief in scientific progress was high. She'll tells Jenni about the impact these beliefs had on the farming community and the fragile landscape of Australia .
