Hampton Court is most associated with Henry the Eighth - it's even said the ghost of Ann Boleyn stalks the chapel there, but the gardens came much later and were built to the taste of the 17th century Dutch monarch, King William of Orange and Queen Mary as a refuge from the hustle of Whitehall. The symmetrical design of the gardens was in accordance with the scientific thinking of the time.
