Next Saturday marks the 12th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda when up to a million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed. It lasted for a 100 days.
Hope Azeda was born in Uganda 34 years ago, after her parents had fled from previous unrest in Rwanda in 1959. Feeling in her heart a Rwandan, after she'd completed her degree in theatre studies, she returned to Kigali in 1995. Her difficulties in settling, combined with finding there were no theatres or professional performers almost made her decide to return to Uganda, but she changed her mind and set up her own company, Mashirika.
