Jacquetta Hawkes was one of Britain's greatest archaeologists; she also helped to found the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. She worked for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO. She wrote novels and children's books and appeared on television, yet nowadays she's little known.
If she is remembered it's often in relation to the playwright JB Priestley, to whom she was married. She died ten years ago and now an enormous archive of her writing has been received by Bradford University. Judy Merry went to see it and met Jacquetta's son, Nicolas.
