Debut novelist takes one of UK’s oldest literary prizes
Evie Wyld, 29 year old bookseller from Peckham, was announced this week as the 2009 winner of the John Llewellyn Rhys literary Prize for her debut novel ‘After the Fire, A Still Small Voice’. In taking the title, she joins a prestigious rank of previous winners which include V.S.Naipaul, Margaret Drabble, David Hare and Andrew Motion. She beat both a Booker and an Orange Prize winner to take the 2009 prize. She joins Jenni in the studio to talk about her book, set in Eastern Australia, which tells the story of a father and son, and how they both face the struggle and horror of going to two different wars.
