For people to learn, or relearn, a stringed instrument, and play in an orchestra
For many people the idea of taking up an orchestral musical instrument in later life, or even restarting after a break of many decades, can seem daunting. But over the past twenty five years the East London Late Starters Orchestra - ELLSO - has helped several hundred people do just that. The orchestra, which has just started a new term, exists to help people learn, or relearn, a stringed instrument, and play in an orchestra. Whilst some members are young, very many join in retirement, and the oldest member is currently 85. Caroline Swinburne went along to listen in and hear more.
