What makes a good party leader?23 September 2009
With party conference season underway, what do women look for in a party leader?

We’re now well into party conference season, with eyes focused today on the speech by the Lib Dem’s leader Nick Clegg. While it's an opportunity to rally the troops, the end of conference speech is also a performance by which party leaders can expect to be judged more widely. What makes a good party leader? It's more than ten years since Tony Blair galvanised the women's vote, so what do today's leaders need to offer to get women on side? How important is a rousing speech? And is the ability to put in a convincing performance on YouTube as critical as being able to perform well at the despatch box? Jenni is joined by Amanda Platell, former Press Secretary to William Hague and broadcaster and columnist, John Harris, Guardian columnist and writer, and Baroness Shirley Williams.
