Lebanese novelist Hanan al-Shaykh was just seven years old when her mother, Kamila, divorced her father. It was the 1950s and the divorce meant that Kamila was no longer allowed access to her two young daughters. Regarded as one of the contemporary Arab world's most acclaimed writers, Hanan joins Jane Garvey to talk about her new book that tells her mother’s story, and coming to terms with a difficult childhood.
