Family
Northern parents23 Jan 2009
Picture shows (top, l-r) Ralf Little as Antony Royle, Ricky Tomlinson as Jim Royle (bottom, seated l-r) Craig Cash as Dave Best, Caroline Aherne as Denise Best, Sue Johnston as Barbara Royle and Liz Smith as Norma Speakman (Nanna / Nan) in the third series of "The Royle Family".
Does everyone need a northern parent in their lives?

Jenni Éclair said recently that "everyone should have northern parents - if Michael Jackson or Britney Spears had been brought up with the same no-nonsense, stoical approach of her parents they wouldn't be in half the trouble they're in". Is there any truth in it or is it just an outdated sentimental view of the north?
