Do they offer something different from their male counterparts?
Gerda Taro, who was killed in Brunete, Spain, during the Spanish Civil War is generally recognised as the first female war photographer. She was proclaimed an anti-fascist martyr and buried in Paris on the day that would have been her 27th birthday. An exhibition of Gerda's work is currently on show at The Barbican Centre and its curator Kate Bush joins Jane, along with war photographer Jenny Matthews, to talk about women’s influence on war photography.
