Female Prisoners in Foreign Jails21 Oct 2008
The rising number of female prisoners being held abroad.

The number of women being held in foreign jails is on the increase. According to the charity ‘Prisoners Abroad’ there has been a 12 per cent rise in the number of women asking for help. Of those women, 65 per cent are in prison because of drugs offences. Jane is joined by Pauline Crowe, the Chief Executive of Prisoners Abroad and Jenny – not her real name – who spent 4 years in a Brazilian jail. She was convicted of smuggling cocaine, but insists she was duped by the man she was travelling with.
