What resources are needed to ensure high quality care and a good death?
This month the Government will publish the first ever comprehensive strategy for end of life care. The aim is to ensure that high quality care is provided at the end of life for all patients, irrespective of diagnosis. The strategy will cover the care given in hospitals, care homes, and in the community. Over half a million adults die each year in England but the service available can often be patchy, and many people do not die where they would choose to. What resources need to be made available to have a good death? Jane discusses the issues with Tom Hughes-Hallett, Chief Executive of the Marie Curie Foundation, Eve Richardson, Chief Executive of the National Council for Palliative Care, and Dawn Pless, whose husband received end of life care in a local hospice.
