The writer on her own extraordinary family

Julia Blackburn is the author of four books of non-fiction and two novels, The Book of Colour and The Leper's Companions, both of which were shortlisted for the Orange Prize. Her new memoir, In The Three of Us is the story of her extraordinary – and many would say dysfunctional family. She talks to Jane about her poet father, who was addicted to barbiturates and alcohol, a combination which made him prone to violence, as well as the break down of her relationship with her mother the painter Rosalie De Meric when their sisterly confidence developed into sexual rivalry.

The Three of Us is pubished by Jonathan Cape ISBN-10 022408601
