Health
The Menopause and Cholesterol24 Mar 2007
Cardiovascular health in menopausal women.

The menopause is well known for hot sweats, sleepless nights and an increased risk of osteoporosis. Less well known by doctors and women alike, is its link to increased cholesterol and the extent to which it can affect our hearts. A recent report highlights just this - bringing the statistic that women are nine times more likely to die of cardiovascular problems than breast cancer into sharp focus. Dr Heather Currie joins Jane to talk about the report’s findings, Gloria Austin shares her experience of cholesterol in the menopause and dietician Nigel Denby explores the options available to help menopausal women bring their cholesterol levels down.
