Antenatal depression08 February 2008
Many women suffer from depression during pregnancy – what should be done to help them?

Although the problems of post-natal depression are widely recognised by women and health professionals, pre-natal depression is less well known. However, it is thought that one in ten women develop some degree of depression during pregnancy. From anxiety or irritability to obsessive compulsive disorder or agoraphobia, the depression can be both severe and unexpected. Jane talks to Delphi Ellis who developed depression when she was expecting her second child and has since set up a website to help other women. They are joined by psychiatrist Veronica O’Keane and midwife Heather Holmes.
