Mirabel Topham: The Queen of Aintree25 October 2007
Mirabel Topham
The woman who ran The Grand National.

Mirabel Topham was in charge of the world’s greatest horse race for nearly forty years from 1935. She had a stern reputation and accused many of her critics of taking a dislike to her because she was a woman. She also weathered a difficult marriage to a husband who was a drunk and a womaniser and who was even prosecuted for indecent exposure. Jenni is joined by Joan Rimmer who knew Mirabel Topham and has written a biography of her life.

Aintree's Queen Bee: Mirabel Topham and The Grand National by Joan Rimmer is published by SportsBooks Ltd ISBN 9781899807581
