Health
Fat as a middle class issue30th July 2007
New study claims working mums increase risk of child obesity.

Middle class mothers who work long hours increase the risk of their offspring being overweight. That’s according to a new study that highlights the problem of obesity in middle class families and counters the widely held belief that overweight children are more likely to come from poorer families. It’s one of the few studies that looks at children under three and measures maternal employment rather than family income. But will this new research help us slow down the so-called obesity time bomb or just make working mothers feel guilty? We talk to Summer Hawkins, author of the report and Susan Jebb from the Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research.
