Last weekend local elections in Spain tested the country’s new gender parity law. While Spain has been governed by a gender parity cabinet since 2004, France’s new president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has just appointed a gender balanced government bringing 7 women into his 16 member cabinet. And a newly elected cabinet in Finland has been formed with more women than men.
Jenni talks to Benedicte Paviot and Johanna Kantola about the impact of policies aimed at bringing more women into prominent political jobs and if other European countries – Britain included – are likely to follow this lead. | |
