Music
Rachel Podger21st May 2007
Rachel Podger
Virtuoso violinist Rachel Podger leads the period instrument orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment who are playing at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London this week. Instead of standing infront of the other musicians she employs a special, sensitive form of conducting using her baroque violin to direct the other players. More and more women musicians embrace this type of democratic musical leadership of early music ensembles and Rachel joins Ritula to talk about the challenges and the rewards of conducting and playing period music in this way.
