As Britain prepared for war in 1939, a small army of artists were despatched across the country to record everyday town and country scenes it was feared would be lost. A project by Social Historian, Raynes Minns, discovered many unknown and forgotten war artists. Along with members of the War Artists Commission, many of these painters were women and three of them met recently at the Imperial War Museum to take a look back at the pictures they painted in the war years. Now in their 90s, artists Malvina Cheek and Phyllis Dimond met to celebrate the birthday of fellow painter Erlund Hudson, also known as Eleanor, along with art historian Magdalen Evans.
