Sian Hughes - Winner of the 25th Arvon International Poetry Prize1 December 2006
The winner of the first Arvon Poetry prize 25 years ago was a little known poet called Andrew Motion.

This year’s winner, Sian Hughes is a single mother of two and her winning entry is a deeply personal poem addressed to her third child; a daughter she decided to abort nearly three years ago after finding out she had Downs Syndrome.

Sian talks to Martha about her decision and the effect it had on her and her family.
