Asthma among children has rocketed over the past 30 years, with one in ten children having asthma. In Oldham some schools have found a unique way of dealing with the problem. The Bronchial Boogie project teaches children how to manage their asthma by learning to play a wind instrument coupled with health education classes. As a result, the children use their inhalers less often, take fewer days off school and participate more in sport. Clare Jenkins reports from a Bronchial Boogie session at St Hugh’s Primary School. | |
