Health
Post-natal depression treatment provision15 May 2006
15-20% of women will experience some sort of mental health problem during pregnancy or after childbirth. Yet there is no national requirement for primary care trusts to supply or buy perinatal psychiatric services. Consequently fewer than half of mental health trusts in England make any mental health provision for the thousands of women having babies every year who are likely to need some support.

Dr Margaret Oates, Consultant in Perinatal Psychiatry, joins Woman’s Hour to explain why she thinks it is vital a centralised policy is introduced.
