 | | | | How paper salvage helps solve crimes | 17 Mar 2006 | | |
With advances in DNA testing we're used to the fact that forensics are more important than ever when it comes to solving crimes. But it's not just DNA that can reveal what happened at the scene of a crime. Paper can hold a surprising number of clues.
The pioneer in this field is Helene Donnelly who has learnt to retrieve even water-soaked and fire-damage paper. She is called to incidents all over the world - from Piper Alpha to IRA bombings. She also visits house fires to save photos and even rescued the contents of the Blue Peter time capsule.
Helene showed Claudia Hammond where she starts when faced with some tiny scraps of paper from the scene of a crime. | |
