Food
The renaissance of the egg08 Feb 2010
eggs
This versatile food is more popular than ever

Last week it was reported that during her first year in office, Mrs Thatcher had written out a diet consisting mainly of eggs; two for breakfast and two for lunch with a normal meal at dinner time. This meant she was eating at least 28 eggs a week. But how healthy is it to eat so many eggs? Undoubtedly they’re a very versatile and cheap food but they’ve had a bad press in recent years. To take a look at eggs, Edwina Currie talks about the salmonella scare and Mrs Thatcher’s egg diet and Jane is joined by nutritionist Kat McDonald and the chef and food writer Sybil Kapoor, who will be cooking up some egg recipes.
