Health
Treating peanut allergy27 Jul 2009
Is it possible to de-sensitise allergic children?

Approximately a quarter of a million children in the UK have an allergy to peanuts. It is a condition which can cause great anxiety as the sufferers and their parents try to ensure total avoidance of nuts, which can be present in tiny amounts in many everyday foods. Now doctors in Cambridge, working on de-sensitising those with the allergy, have reported favourable results from their latest trial. To discuss the project, its results and its implications, Jane is joined by Dr Pamela Ewan, consultant Allergist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital who is leading the research and by Mandy East, national co-ordinator for The Anaphylaxis Campaign.
