Facing the trauma and impact of oral cancer

In early 2006, the novelist Lia Mills went to the dentist, worried about a painful lump in her cheek.
She was diagnosed with oral cancer and underwent radical surgery to remove the tumour and reconstruct her jaw. Based on the journals she kept throughout her illness Lia wrote about her experience.
She joins Jenni Murray, along with Manu Patel; consultant maxillofacial surgeon for South Manchester University Hospital NHS Trust, to discuss the impact of the disease, and how it affects the way other people see you.

In Your Face, by Lia Mills, is published by Penguin. ISBN 0141033339
