Memories of London’s East End and the legacy of the workhouse

Jennifer Worth worked as a district nurse and midwife in London’s East End during the fifties. At 65, she decided to write about her experiences. Her best-selling book, "Call the Midwife", tells her vivid story of delivering babies by gaslight as well as working and living in London’s East End: the dockers, nuns, pimps and prostitutes. Jane talks to her about her latest book "Shadows of the Workhouse" continues the story.

Shadows of the Workhouse is published by Merton BooksISBN-13: 978-187256013
