How equality came out of the Good Friday Agreement27 May 2008
For real equality look to Northern Ireland

It is ten years since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. After nearly thirty years of conflict and years of debate, the Agreement was signed, signifying a crucial breakthrough in the Northern Ireland Peace Process. Also, during the deal, The Agreement made equality – on grounds of religion, race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, and caring responsibility – a constitutional duty. The writer Bea Campbell joins Jenni to discuss the role women played in getting the massively expanded equality laws into the Agreement and how they are now working in practice. They are joined by Inez McCormack, the human rights activist and former President of Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Agreement, The State, Conflict and Change in Northern Ireland by Beatrix Campbell published by Lawrence and Wishart ISBN: 1905007744
