Jacqueline Walker’s Jamaican-born mother, Dorothy, arrived in Britain in 1959, pregnant, with two of her three children. She struggled with financial hardship, prejudice and recurring mental problems, but her biggest problem was trying to hold her family together. Jacqueline talks to Jenni about her mother’s experiences and about her own life growing up in poverty in the London of the early 60s.
