Princess Smartypants
We talk to the children's author about her motorbike-riding Princess Smartypants

It’s twenty one years since the children’s book “Princess Smartypants” first hit the bookstands. The antithesis of a fairy princess, she was a feminist who rode a motorbike and had no intention of getting married. Her creator, the children’s author and illustrator Babette Cole, went on to surprise and amuse with a whole range of books like “Hair in Funny”, “Drop Dead” and the million-selling “ Mummy Laid an Egg” bringing issues of puberty, sex and death to the nation’s children. She joins Jenni to talk about her life, her love of animals and kissing frogs.

'Princess Smartypants Comes of Age' is atThe Illustration Cupboard, London SW1 from 20th September – 6th October 2007
