Have inaccurate growth charts caused parents to overfeed their babies?
A new report says that Child Growth Charts may be causing parents to overfeed their babies, increasing the likelihood of obesity in later life. The charts are currently based on the faster weight gain of formula fed babies. If they don't hit certain targets, some parents are encouraged to supplement breast milk with formula or give up breast feeding altogether. Now the government has agreed to pilot new charts, based on standards that measure development against breast-fed babies.
