The Demise of the First Lady20th Aug 2007
Is being the First Lady an important role or an outdated institution?

Since declaring his intentions to run for the French presidency, the eyes of the world's media have been fixed firmly on the dynamic Nicolas Sarkozy. But so have they been on his wife Cecilia, who has reputedly taken a more unconventional approach to her traditional role of “First Lady”. Ritula will be joined by Bendicte Paviot of France 24, Mary Dejevsky of the Independent and writer and journalist Anthony Howard to discuss the history of the First Lady, how it is changing and whether the position should indeed exist at all.
