Hildegard of Bingen; one of the first composers07 June 2007
Ordo Virtutum by Hildegard Of Bingen
Medieval music

Hildegard of Bingen is regarded as one of the world’s first composers and - although she lived nearly 900 years ago - large amounts of her music still survive today. Her most acclaimed work - Ordo Virtutum [The Rite of the Virtues] - is being performed at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. It tells the story of the Soul's struggle with the temptations of the world and how the Virtues aid the Soul in its fight against the Devil. Miriam O'Reilly speaks to the soprano Evelyn Tubb and to Fiona Maddox - the author of Hildegard of Bingen;A Woman of her Age.
