BAFTA award-winning documentary-maker Molly Dineen is well-known for her films about the London Zoo, the House of Lords and intimate portraits of Geri Halliwell and Tony Blair. But in her new film, ‘The Lie of the Land’, she explores the shocking and harsh realities of life as a British farmer today. Squeezed by powerful supermarkets that are keeping the price of milk sixpence lower than ten years ago, and increasing legislation from DEFRA, farmers are worried about whether they can sustain their way of life. Molly tells Jenni about their struggle to maintain the delicate balance between life and death.
The Lie of the Land is on Channel 4 on Thursday at 9pm, and until Thursday 11th May you can download her film for free from Channel 4 .
