When Labour came to power in 1997 nearly one in four of its new MPs was a woman. When all 101 of them were photographed with the Prime Minister, they became known as 'Blair's Babes'.
As Tony Blair prepares to hand over the mantle of PM, Jane Little and guests ask where all those hopes have gone. Female MPs have made their mark, successfully introducing policies favourable to women; but the macho Commons culture has broken the political will of many. On the other hand, considering the recent failure of the Tory A-List, designed to increase the number of women candidates, are things any better on the opposite benches? Joining Jane in the studio are Clare Ward, MP for Watford and government whip, Claire Curtis-Thomas, Labour MP for Crosby, Theresa May, MP for Maidenhead and Shadow Leader of the House.
