Feminising the Conservatives11 Oct 2006
Last week’s Conservative Party conference provided another opportunity for David Cameron to stress that the Tories need to appeal to women if they are to win the next general election.

The party has been developing its “Approved” lists of candidates, which intend to be more representative of gender and ethnic diversity, and now the Tories have even appointed their own lifestyle guru, in the shape of top literary agent Ali Gunn.

So how do you “feminise” a political party, and are the measures being taken by the Conservatives to appeal to female voters the right ones? Martha is joined by Shireen Ritchie, who chairs the committee that draws up selection lists for Tory candidates, and the former Conservative MP Lady Olga Maitland.
