The advancement in assisted reproduction and genetics has offered parents choices about their children they have never had before. They can now make decisions about the sex of their child; whether to screen out genetic conditions or to enhance the qualities their children have. In her new book Prof Sheila McLean argues that parents should be allowed to exercise their own conscience in respect of their future children, including cloning, as long as there is no evidence of harm.
So should we view this as an opportunity to advance the greater good or do we need to take a more cautious approach? Jenni discusses the issues with Sheila McLean, Professor of Law, Ethics and Medicine at Glasgow University and Helena Kennedy QC, Chair of the Human Genetics Commission.
