HIIV experts from around the world are meeting in Toronto for the 16th International AIDS conference this week. High on the agenda is the issue of funding for microbicides - which are currently undergoing clinical trials. It's hoped these gels will enable women to protect themselves from infection when men won't wear condoms, thereby reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Professor Janet Derbyshire, the head of the clinical trials unit at the UK Medical Research Council and Millicent Obaso, the HIV /AIDS advisor to Care International for Eastern and Central Africa, join Jenni to discuss how soon these microbicides will be available, and how they might help.
