A generation ago, unless they have been in a previous heterosexual relationship, gay men and lesbians were unlikely to have children. Now we are seeing the growth of new family structures - with up to two mums, two dads and a possible eight grandparents.
But, without a blueprint for how to make these new family setups work, what complications - both practical and emotional - are gay parents encountering? Martha Kearney is joined by two gay parents with very different experiences.
