Book clubs, perhaps unfairly, are seen as places for people who already have a knowledge and a love of books. Now a project in Blackburn has been awarded for its attempt to encourage people who wouldn't normally read, to pick up a book. Many of the young women involved have been homeless and left school with few qualifications - for many of them reading had been difficult and books held no appeal. But the 'Books on the Edge' project has changed the lives of many of them and was runner up for this year's 'Libraries Change Lives' award.
Judy Merry met the woman running the group, Leona Holden, who's the literary development officer for Blackburn and some of the young women re-discovering books.
