Health
The Perimenopause26 June 2006
The perimenopause is a condition that affects women, mostly in their forties, and is caused by a dip in oestrogen levels and changes in ovarian function. The condition can last for up to ten years with symptoms that include menstrual irregularity, mood swings, hot flushes and tiredness. These can be alleviated through Hormone Replacement Therapy, but there are some concerns that prolonged use of HRT presents other health risks to women.

Dr Annie Evans, a woman’s health specialist and Dr Sarah Jarvis, women’s health spokesperson for the Royal College of GPs discuss with Jenni the best ways to deal with the condition.
