Mental health drugs – is it right to prescribe them to children?21 Jun 2006
When is it right to prescribe drugs to children with mental health conditions? Figures suggest that there has been nearly a three-fold increase in the prescribing of drugs to children by psychiatrists in the last 20 years. Are these drugs really necessary? Could they actually be damaging children’s health and well-being? And how effective are they?

Jenni Murray talks to child psychiatrist Dr Sami Timimi, Deputy Director of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Research unit, Dr Tim Kendall and Andrea Bilbow, Chief Executive of ADDISS, the national charity for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
