The Conservative A-List02 June 2006
This weekend Bromley and Chislehurst Conservative Association will select their candidate to fight the forthcoming by-election caused by the death of Eric Forth MP. David Cameron has backed away insisting that they choose a candidate from the party’s priority list. This so-called “A-list” of candidates was designed to get more women and people from ethnic minorities into the Conservative parliamentary party. What signal does this send out to the public? How serious is the party at boosting the number of women candidates? And can it overcome resistance to the A-list from many grassroots activists?

Martha Kearney will be discussing this with Margot James, vice chairman of the Conservative Party for women, and Sue Catling, a Conservative Parliamentary candidate at the 2001 general election.
