Sylvia Brownrigg’s third novel explores the intimacies of birth and death through the eyes of a Serbian psychotherapist, and the stories her patients share with her in her north London flat. In The Delivery Room as it is referred to her English husband, Mira listens to the inner battles and losses brought to her by the grieving Mother, the young American journalist, the Bigot, and the Aristocrat. As NATO’s threats against her country are realised and the bombing of Kosovo begins, Mira herself becomes the central focus and experiences great personal loss, at the same time as her patients begin to heal and focus on new life.
Jenni talks to Sylvia Brownrigg about her new book The Delivery Room.
