On living with the 'picture book perfect' mother-in-law
'Your suspenders were 50p'; 'Dad used some of your psoriasis cream on that rough patch on his shin, and it’s gone. Brilliant'; 'We used the wooden knitting needles for propping up the house plants. Remember?'. These are just some of the notes the actor Phyllida Law left for her mother-in-law. Phyllida, the widow of Magic Roundabout narrator Eric Thompson, and mother of actors Sophie and Emma Thompson has written and illustrated her first book, based on the nightly notes she used to leave to her mother-in-law who lived with the family for seventeen years. She talks to Jane about the notes, and about her mother-in-law, who she describes as 'picture book perfect'.
