Jill Murphy’s illustrated stories are amongst our most popular books for children, such as 'The Worst Witch', 'Five Minutes Peace', and 'Peace at Last'. Jill started drawing and writing stories when she was six, she had the idea for 'The Worst Witch' when she was still at school and finally succeeded in getting it published when she was twenty four. That was in 1974, and her books have now sold more than five million copies worldwide. This week sees the publication of 'Dear Hound', the first new character developed by Jill for more than fifteen years. She joins Jane to talk about elephants, bears and how she was able to give her own experience of losing a dog a happy ending.
'Dear Hound' is published by puffin on 1st October ISBN-10 0141383984
